Fourthords' ten most-played songs of 2021

10. “Low Rider”

- War, Why Can’t We Be Friends? (1975)

Another result of ‘songs from other media’, this bassy funk standard always reminds me of the training montage from one of my all-time favorite films, A Knight’s Tale.

8. “No One Sleep in Tokyo”

- Edo Boys, 頭文字D ~D Selection~ (1998)

I began re-watching Initial D this year and DAMN! I can’t but endlessly thank MOliver for introducing me to the anime and its non-stop-energy soundtrack.

7. “El Fusilado”

- Chumbawamba, The Boy Bands Have Won (2008)

This was a result of learning about Wenceslao Moguel, the Mexican firing squad survivor. Turns out Chumbawamba wrote a really great song about him, and here we find ourselves.

6. “Outside”

- Staind, Break the Cycle (2001)

If I had to guess, turn-of-the-millennium music really resonates for being a formative period of my life?

4. “Africa”

- Weezer, Weezer (2019)

It’s less because I love their covers of ten outstanding 80s songs (though they are great), but it’s a really great mix of outstanding 80s songs that I love!

3. “Cleveland Rocks”

- The Presidents of the United States of America, Pure Frosting (1998)

This is in my playlist, 'songs from other media', songs that I came to from a non-musical media. That playlist is always a hit with me, good songs that also remind me of other things I’ve enjoyed. This exemplar is, of course, thanks to The Drew Carey Show.

2. “SoS”

- The Klingon Pop Warrior, bommey qu' (2017)

This was the year Angelbiscuit and I discovered the Klingon Pop Warrior, and we will never tire of her Klingon-language covers of popular music (this one being Danzig's "Mother").

1. “Wherever You Will Go”

- The Calling, Camino Palmero (2001)

Back when music videos were a thing, this one caught my eye. From what I remember, it has a good message, and the song stuck with me.
