"[A]us so krummem Holze, als woraus der Mensch gemacht ist, kann nichts ganz Gerades gezimmert werden."

I occasionally dip my toes into play-by-post role-playing games (PBPRPG).  I do this to hone my creativity and writing, and they're not serious commitments because generally the DMs are just doing it for the same purposes.  A premise caught my eye back in February: "You have infinite wishes."

Me: I wish to be healthy.

DM: You are already healthy. However, you do feel slightly invigorated.

Me: ‘I wish for unending, comprehensive healthfulness through the end of my days.’ Barring anything unexpected, I follow it up with, ‘I wish for the ability to, at will, manipulate the empathy of others.’

DM: You can now manipulate the empathy of others by yelling a % out loud. This % is how empathetic the entire population of earth is set to.

Me: All the people, huh? Okay then, let’s not pussyfoot around, ‘100%’.

DM: Everyone is linked up to an emotional hive mind. The result is not pretty. This world is full of pain and suffering. It quickly consumes the hive mind until their is nothing but agony of billions of minds screaming out at once. :)

Me: Yeah, that was always a possibility. I begin decreasing the percentage one point at a time until I perceive a marked change.

My DM hasn't replied, so that was the end of our exchange.  I was a little bummed because I especially enjoy the mental exercise of character-with-wishes vs. vindictive universe.  I highly recommend watching the X-Files episode "Je Souhaite".

Above are some of the animals we've rescued over the years.  Among those not pictured above are Muggs, Kika, and Flicker.

This morning I read a news story (and watched the accompanying video) titled, "Video of woman abandoning dogs draws outrage".  The article is infuriating on its own, but then I made the mistake of reading the comments on the associated Reddit discussion-page.  The posts weren't your regular undesirable discourse, but were instead were just the sad stories, recollections, and evidence of inhumanity that bring me no health or happiness to remember, so I won't.  Suffice it to say though, after my last two weeks, and on top of my general mental health awesomeness, I am not feeling on top of the world today.

Today, I went back to that February PBPRPG, and found my DM's last update again.  ("Everyone is linked up to an emotional hive mind. The result is not pretty. This world is full of pain and suffering. It quickly consumes the hive mind until their is nothing but agony of billions of minds screaming out at once.")  Today I replied to it with a new response: "Good".
